Herbs (guide from Raehl)

PostSubject: Raehl's guide to Herbs and Wisdom Lore Mon Nov 19, 2007 11:36 pm Reply with quote Edit/Delete this post Delete this post View IP address of poster
Rather than put this into the other thread, which has some information that is inaccurate, the following has all of my current notes on herbs. I think you will find it useful if you have any interests in Wisdom Lore.

First, the generally stated minimum for attempting to mix herbal potions is 3. I have WL 5 on my FC alt that does my mixing, because the higher you have the less likely you are to fail the mix and destroy one of the ingredients. You can mix by placing all of the correct herbs in any container and using the syntax "mix (container name)". If you have a mixing flask, which sells for 20-some crowns in some cities, you are less likely to fail a mix.

Known herbal recipes:

1.) A Thin Vial of Yellow Fluid
”Refresh vial” – gives the user extra stamina

Recipe:
Three pouches of Flatwort Tea
Two lots of Kaf Beans
One sack of Ivy

2.) A Cup of Thready Brown Tea
+2 to Strength Stat

Recipe:
Three small piles of Goatflower Petals
One piece of Willow Bark
One spring of Nightsbane
One whole Fennel plant

3.) A Vial of Dark Red Liquid
Removes fear from the user.

Recipe:
Two dark Belladonna Berries.
One handful of Juniper Berries
One whole Sunburst Root
One handful of Dogwort leaves

4.) A Vial of Vivid Blue Liquid
Cuts the user off from the Source.

Recipe:
Three packets of forkroot
One dose of chopped sheepstongue root
One pouch of sleepwell root
One belladonna berry

There is not currently a known recipe for tinfuls, a refresh/healing vial for fades, or for a bubbling draught, which removes Blindness. Contrary to the information stated in the other thread, the recipe for a cup of thick syrup (anti-poison) is not currently known. The recipes are changed periodically by the Imms so that Wisdoms have to work to relearn the combinations. Since the last change, the cup of thick syrup has not been rediscovered. I am actually working on finding recipes for both the draught and the cup (both of which I have been confirmed by an Imm to be possible by MUD coding). However, after 300 attempts of varying recipes for the cup of thick syrup, I have not made any apparent progress. I'll update you if I figure it out.

Herb locations, sorted alphabetically by name:

Belladonna Berry
• In the Great Forest, VFN of Whitebridge, in The Flowery Plains. It is just east and north of the settlement of Irinjavar, in the same zone as several popular smobs (Kreeza, etc.). Locate a table VFNW of Tar Valon.
• Just a bit north of the Heart of the Forest
• Near Watch Hill. Locate a pickaxe (the silvermines, FSW of Whitebridge) and go several rooms to the north.

Dogwort
• Grows just south of Tar Valon, next to several other herbs just off of the main road.

Fennel
• Grows on the Illian-Tear road, a bit east and north of the sandstone load. For a faster route to it, locate blackberries from Illian or Tear—there are some growing only a few rooms away from it.

Flatwort Tea
• Smitty the Wine Baron hoards these, usually 2 at a time. He can be find nearby Illian, mostly north and then east of the city. Ask a Companion for help finding and subduing him if necessary.
• Northern spine, near some scorpions?

Forkroot
• Due to the forbidden nature of this herb, locations for it will not be listed. Anyone who finds forkroot would do best to collect it and deliver it to the first Aes Sedai you find, preferably a Brown or Yellow sister.

Foxgloves
• Grow west of Illian, very close to the lumberjacks and bandits, about 10-20 rooms west of the kaf load.

Gheandin Blossom
• A bit northeast of the Kandori fortress. Locate a blighted deer VFNW of Tar Valon. It grows in A Large Valley.
• Near Watch Hill. The easiest way is to locate a pickaxe from the silvermines FSW of Whitebridge, and then walk a short distance to the north (about 15-20 rooms). It is hidden behind a hidden heartybranch.

Goatflower
• Grows 6 rooms due east of Cairhien, before reaching the Spine.
• In the Great Forest, VFN of Whitebridge, in a room named “The Flowery Plains.”
• Grows just south of Tar Valon, next to several other herbs just off of the main road.

Healall
• Near a farmer’s field by Remen, just off the track south of it. It grows in a Neglected Field.
• Near a tunnel by the entrance to the Misty Mountains, north of Amadicia?

Honey
• Found about halfway on the road between Tar Valon and Cairhien. (Although the item is referred to as honey, it does not respond to ‘honey’, and appears to be a tincture of a thick yellow liquid.)

Ivy
• With a bit of luck or good timing, this can be found simply lying on the floor in the Auction House on the eastern side of the city of Caemlyn, a little south of the tailor.
• South of the east road out of Emonds Field?

Juniper Berries
• West of the Old Road going south from Emonds Field?
• In the Haddon Mirk—“3w of Break”?

Kaf
• West of Illian, near lumberjacks. Sometimes 2 can be found there at the same time.
• Just a few rooms away from the nightsbane in the Mountains of Mist, in the same room as the bucket used to locate the old cabin.

Nightsbane
• Very far southwest of Whitebridge, easily found by Traveling. While in Whitebridge, use Locate Object to locate a bucket VFSW of the city (in the Mountains of Mist) and Travel to it. Go a few rooms west and south from the old cabin with a trolloc mob inside to find it growing outside. It is west of the Two Rivers region.
• Crater by volcano between Mayene and Tear. Go out the eastern gate from Tear, then follow the path north from the farm area.

Sunburst
• Swamps just east of Two Rivers?

Tremalking Black
• Grows near Aringill. Usually thieves in the area will pick up the stuff, so try to defeat them to get the teas they hoard.

Willow bark
• Just a few rooms east and south of the eastern gate of Whitebridge, in the room named “Forest Center.”
• 6 rooms due east from the belladonna berry in the Great Forest.

Crafting:-

City--Room--Weapon Type--Master weapon

Caemlyn--Caemlyn Market--Medium Blades--Bone-handled Blade
Cairhien--Defender of the Dragonwall-- fencing blades
Tear--The Golden Cup--1h lblades--I & G longsword
Mayene--The Dancing Badger--2hlongblades--Great Claymore
Illian--Inside a Warehouse--Lances
BE 2h axes,
Tanchico--The Verana Tavern--light axe smith guild.
maradon is 2h spears,
taren ferry is staves
Far Madding--Commonroom of the Golden Wheel Inn--Polearms
Remen--Altaran Customs Checkpoint North--Dagger--Green Jade

Crafting Guilds--

Tarandrelle is smelting/mining,
west village of tar valon is leather making guild,
Mayene--Fishoil

Fblades:-
'You do need a few items to make a fencing sword, yes.'
'You will need a bar of iron, a hammer and some leather straps.'
'When you are ready to start smithing, bring me the straps.'
'Show it to me so I can check the quality.'
'When you have everything start with reheating the iron.'
'When the iron is red hot, take it to the anvil and hammer it into the shape of a fencing blade.'
'Reheat the blade and make a shallow indentation along the length of both broad sides of the blade.'
'Cool off the blade in a barrel of water.'
'Reheat again and hammer at the edges so they become more narrow.'
'Finally, cool off again and you can start with attaching the guard and hilt.'
'Slide the guard and precious hilt over the flat end of the metal hilt and rivet them in place.'
'Carefully file the heads off the rivets.'
'Once you have finished your masterpiece I will ask you for a letter of rights for using my forge.'

Daggers:-
sa I wish to join your guild to the guildmaster in Remen, Altaran Customs Checkpoint North. It'll cost you 150 gold and you can only join one crafting guild and one weapons guild. He'll tell you it's 150 then type "give 150 crown master", you're now a member of the daggers guild. Next, go w, 2s, w to blacksmiths and say "which items are required to craft a weapon of the daggers guild". He'll tell you dull rock, iron bar and hammer. 2 dull rocks load south of amador, nr maulers cave, 1 loads on illian-tear rd nr grasses. Hammer also loads on illian-tear rd of it sells in quite a few shops, including a weapon shop in luggy. Iron bars you can either buy or mine and smelt your own, I'll post smelting explanation below this.

Once you've got the 3 items, just type "show rock smith" and have all 3 items in inv. He'll say good, good, continue smithing. Next, type "reheat iron", bunch of mobol happens and then it tells you that you can now make an indentation. Type "make indentation". next command is "attach hilt", then you'll be all done, one dagger of gleaming steel! After 5/6 days of this(can only make 1 dagger per day) , it'll tell you you're ready for your master's piece. exactly same process, but when you've made the dagger it'll ask for a letter of rights. get this from the Guildmaster, just say "letter of rights"
then type "give 15 crown master" when he responds. Go back to smithy and type "drop letter" and he'll give you your dagger, will either be a green jade or a gleaming, there's about a 50% chance of jade from my experience.

from Entray:-
Smelting:-
First, you go to Baerlon, 1d from rent
You need to make sure you have three items or the old miner will tell you to get them...
a pickaxe ( wielded )
a good lantern (held)
a pair of work gloves (worn)
Then you:
SAY I WANT TO LEARN HOW TO MINE
then you will say later:
SAY PRACTIVE MINING
then later:
SHOW GRIP ( a few times til he is happy )
then:
SWING PICKAXE ( a couple times til he is happy )
type in there PRACTICE MINING
Then you go out and you find and Ore Vein in a cave or tunnels and with the pickaxe and gloves and lantern, type MINE IRON ORE and eventually you will either get some ORE or the thing will run out
Then you come back and show the old miner the ORE you found
You head toward White Bridge and before you get there ( it is like 10 rooms west of White Bridge ) head south and you will find a little town called something like Terendalle or something like that ... There is a man ... go all south through town, then 1w and alls you will meet him
say to this man
SAY I WANT TO LEARN HOW TO SMELT
He will then talk a bit and then he told me to pay him 160 crowns
to become an apprentice
I paid him and then you will need to remember what the old miner told you when you showed him the ore
Go all south from the man you paid, and then 2e 1s
you should be in the blacksmiths room with a smelting oven
put your gloves on
type OPEN OVEN
it will open
type PUT ORE OVEN
then type
CLOSE OVEN
it will close
then it will tell you if you failed or succeeded in making the iron ( i failed a bunch.,.,. so you do need a few lumps of Ore)
If you succeed, it will say you have a nice piece of iron or something, and you open the oven and get it out
The stuff weighs a ton, so be careful
I collapsed myself trying to haul nine lumps of Ore around ( it was like 180 lbs )

LW
Through the Hills
Traversing this range of hills can be tricky at times, alternating between
the softened mud of the shoreline and the thickly growing trees of the
forest. The effect of the nearby lake can be seen clearly as the trees grow
tall and strong. The forests continue to stretch to the north and south.

With a few pleasant words of greeting, this woman sets you immediately at
ease. She has a natural maternal nature about her and is an endless source
of wise sayings. Her knowing eyes and ready smile say that not too much
escapes these old bones.

An old woman is in excellent condition.

an old woman is using:
<worn on body> a colorful dress

'Leather is one of the most useful products in the world.'
'Quite a lengthy process to go from a freshly skinned animal hide to fine supple leather.'
'The best leather comes from cows, oxen and bison.'
'First thing you need is some items: a knife, some willow bark, soap and oil.'
'Next thing you need is some willow bark for the tanning.'
'Whenever you have skinned an animal, let me examine the hide.'
'If it is not a skin of sufficient quality it is no use investing time and effort in it.'
'Then find a place where there is sufficient water and preferably a log of some sort.'
'Also a barrel.'
'Put the hide onto the log and scrape the fat and flesh from the hide with your knife.'
'When you have done that you will have to put the skin in the tanning pit.'

'When you are ready to start smithing, bring me the straps.'
Show it to me so I can check the quality.'

'Slide the guard and hilt over the flat end of the metal hilt and rivet it in place.'
'Carefully file the heads off the rivets.'
'Once you have finished your masterpiece I will ask you for a letter of rights for using my forge.'

Soap:-

long, heavy knife, tree scalp and bucket
one slab of meat too
and a water skin
'Once you have found a site with a kettle, barrel and fire you can start with soapmaking.'
'You can start by putting the wood in the fire to burn it to ashes.'
'Then you can make lye by putting the ashes into the barrel.'

How to use waygates:

Waygates can be used by anyone as long as they know how and as long as they are not too low level (above level 15 and you should be perfectly fine to use the Ways). Using the Ways involves the "search" skill and while no knowledge of search is needed, it can help your journey through the ways go a lot faster.

Firstly to open a waygate, you go to the room the waygate is located (which I will post below) and enter the command PULL LEAF. With no search practiced this will take many tries. The higher percentage search you have practiced the less the number of times you will need to enter pull leaf. Once the gate is opened you can enter it by entering the command DOWN.

Here's a log of someone using the ways:

On the Cracked Arc
[ obvious exits: S W D ]
An armoured black stallion has arrived from the west.

and so on... until you get to a waygate.

As you can see, to navigate the ways you must enter the command SEACH GUIDING, which will show you the safe path to travel. If take an exit that is not highlighted by the guiding you will enter a deathtrap and die, losing all your equipment, but fortunatly no XP. Each room you exit will take 4 mvs and Machin Shin may find and follow you. All he does is take a little HP every so often and each emote he does will taint you a little, acting similar to an MC's taint, but you will see things like rat's talking, trollocs running about, e.t.c. Once you reach an exit, you type PULL LEAF again, and then leave UP.
